History was brought to life with this field trip to the Tate House. Kids learned about Captain Tate and his job as Senior Mast Agent for King George III. Maine's tall white pine trees were marked with a "broad arrow" and eventually cut down to be used as masts for the British Royal Navy's ships.

What a fun and informative trip to our local lighthouse! Kids listened attentively and asked many questions. They then drew pictures and took notes about their favorite historical lighthouse topics. These notes and pictures may be used for our final history projects and for the slideshow to be completed with visiting artist Laurie Downey.
